There is a
house in Iwami Ginzan (Shimane prefecture) where one can feel the past very
close to the present, and the present very close to the past. Takyo Abeke was
originally built in 1789 in an area of an important silver mine, Iwami Ginzan.
Tomi Matsuba decided to restore the abandoned Bukeyashiki (traditional Samurai
house) so that people could enjoy and remember the values of tradicional
Japanese culture. It took 10 years for her to restore the house. The abandoned
Samurai house was relived as an inn “Takyo Abeke” where Matsuba herself lives
in now. In Abeke, food is served using locally grown products. All guests eat
together on a huge wooden table in the amazing kitchen dinning room with
Matsuba and other collegues. Eating rice cooked by firewood like grandmother’s
house , visitors find out that they came back home.
